Understanding Parlay Odds
What Is a Parlay Bet?
A parlay combines two or more selections into one bet. Every active selection normally needs to win for the ticket to pay. The combined price offers a larger potential return because more outcomes must go your way.
How to Calculate Parlay Odds
Convert each price to decimal odds, then multiply the unrounded values. For two +150 selections, each decimal price is 2.50. Combined odds are 2.50 × 2.50 = 6.25. At a $10 stake, total payout is $62.50 and potential profit is $52.50.
For American odds, use 1 + odds ÷ 100 for positive prices, or 1 + 100 ÷ absolute odds for negative prices. For fractional odds, use 1 + numerator ÷ denominator. Finally, implied probability is 100 ÷ combined decimal odds.
American vs Decimal vs Fractional Odds
American +150 means $150 profit per $100 staked; −110 means staking $110 for $100 profit. Decimal 2.50 means a $2.50 total return for every $1 staked. Fractional 3/2 means $3 profit per $2 staked. All three of +150, 2.50 and 3/2 describe the same price.
What Happens if One Leg Loses?
A losing active leg typically loses the entire parlay. A pushed or voided leg may instead be removed, depending on sportsbook rules. Use the Push / Void checkbox to model removal; the original odds remain available if you uncheck it.
Are Parlays Harder to Win?
Adding independent legs reduces the implied chance of the whole ticket winning. Two +100 legs imply 25%; three imply 12.5%; five imply 3.125%. These are prices translated into percentages, not guaranteed forecasts. Sportsbook margins and correlated outcomes affect interpretation.
Parlay Betting Examples
Each example uses a $10 stake and assumes every active leg wins. Prices are multiplied before rounding.
| Ticket | Leg odds | Combined decimal | Total payout | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 legs | +150, −110 | 4.7727 | $47.73 | $37.73 |
| 3 legs | All −110 | 6.9579 | $69.58 | $59.58 |
| 5 legs | All −110 | 25.3591 | $253.59 | $243.59 |
For the −110 examples, use the full value 1 + 100/110 for each leg, rather than the rounded 1.91.
Frequently Asked Questions
Get comfortable with parlay payouts, odds and probability.
How do you calculate parlay odds?
Convert every active leg to decimal odds and multiply them. For example, 2.00 × 2.00 = 4.00, equivalent to +300 American odds.
How much does a $10 parlay pay?
It depends on the odds and number of legs. Two +100 legs pay $40.00 in total on $10, including $30.00 profit. Three −110 legs pay $69.58, including $59.58 profit.
How much does a 3-leg parlay pay?
At −110 for each leg, the combined decimal odds are about 6.9579. A $10 stake returns $69.58. Different leg prices change the payout.
How much does a 5-leg parlay pay?
Five −110 legs have combined decimal odds of about 25.3591. A $10 stake returns $253.59, with $243.59 potential profit.
How do you calculate parlay winnings?
Multiply your stake by the combined decimal odds to get total payout. Subtract the original stake to find net profit.
What happens if a parlay leg is voided?
A voided or pushed leg is typically excluded from the multiplication. One remaining active leg settles like a single bet; if all legs are voided, the stake is returned. Sportsbook rules, especially same-game parlay rules, can differ.
Can I use decimal odds?
Yes. Choose Decimal and enter a value greater than 1.00 for each leg. American and fractional odds are also supported. Switching formats preserves the underlying prices.
How do you calculate parlay probability?
Divide 1 by the combined decimal odds and multiply by 100. This is an odds-implied probability, not a guaranteed prediction. Multiplying individual win probabilities assumes independent outcomes and can be misleading for correlated selections.
